What you CAN see when it is off are the toolpaths if you have them selected. I know, seems weird, but think about it, color, shaded, view 0ff. OK, turning off the color shaded view does exactly that, turns it off. Though it refreshes a lot and drives me slightly crazier than I already am. Selecting that will also show you the model without having calculated toolpaths. Too see the 3d rendering you must have the 3d window selected then go to Toolpaths/ToolPath Drawing and select 'Wrap Y' or 'Wrap X', depending on how you are setup. I'd certainly like to understand gcode better, though the convenience of a program like Aspire or conversational cam is helping keep track of the various processes such as tapering and adding decorative cuts to that as well. I'd like to be able to see either one to decide which works better can't run both at the same time! However, I'm not rendering all toolpaths as I often experiment and have contrasting options. I'm wrapping the y axis around the x, as nicksilva says. Perhaps an angled text bounding box could work, or am I just being complicated trying to avoid going the modeling route? While the flat upper surface of the material remains constant, the diminishing circumference would be problematic. Would I have to go the modeling route if I want to put text or image on, to project those onto a 3D model. I guess I could do that in modeling, but is there a simpler way to do it? I'm able to raise or lower the tailstock on my machine (Legacy Arty) which means I can set an angle for the material and cut it as though I was planing it flat. My other question would be turning tapered forms. The best I can get is the wireframe image with toolpaths, but that renders upside down, and even with a 3.2ghz i5 processor and 8gb memory, anything in wrapped mode is painfully slow to turn or zoom. For starters, I cannot get a realistic preview image of a wrapped design (and yes, I'm starting from the Wrap Gadget Setup). Aspire clearly offers more capability, such as wrapping test or images, but I'm not having success learning to use this. I've only recently begun doing 4th axis turning, using a conversational cam program.
